The Many Benefits of Grapefruit Juice

8 Extra Beauty Steps That Are Absolutely Worth It

True, you don't need to deep condition or apply primer, and by skipping you do save time and money. However, one little extra move could mean the difference between mediocre and marvelous. Find out which bonus steps really make a difference to your daily routine when you read on.
1. Primer: It would seem that applying an extra layer of primer before foundation could be pointless. This product is worth the extra step, though. Not only does primer help makeup go on smoother and stay put longer, but also, there are plenty of formulas that do double duty by correcting redness, brightening skin, and providing sun protection.
2. Base Coat: While it takes longer to dry your nails when you add a clear base and top coat, these mere minutes don't compare to the extra days you could add to the life of your polish. A base coat protects the nail from yellowing and a top coat limits the chips. Just make sure to seal the free edge for optimal wear.
3. Deep Conditioner: Who has five minutes (or more) to stand around in the shower waiting for conditioner to seep in? You do. The more time you take to moisturize your hair, the shinier, longer, and healthier your strands will be.
4. Sunscreen: As we age, over 90 percent of its signs (like wrinkles and discoloration) are caused by the sun. Enough said. The best method to protect yourself is to apply aseparate sunscreen with a SPF of 30 or more after your moisturizer.
5. Makeup Remover: How many times have you scrubbed your face only to leave mascara stains on the towel — in addition to a roughed-up complexion? By using a separate makeup remover in addition to face wash, your lashes, skin, and linens will thank you.
6. Heat Protectant: Before you blow-dry your hair, applying a spritz of heat protectant could be the difference between fabulous and fried strands. You also want to make sure your strands are completely dry before you straighten them with a flat iron.
7. Exfoliation: Ridding your face of dead skin cells will not only reveal brighter skin, but it will also help your skin care products work more effectively. Try using a cleanser with gentle exfoliants, or attempt a more serious chemical peel at the dermatologist's office. Another option is investing in an electric cleansing brush.
8. Lash Curler: Models, movie stars, and makeup artists swear by lash curling. Adding this simple step can open the eyes and make lashes appear longer and more voluminous.

Hardy, Healthy and Filling!!

Turkey Chili at its BEST!!

This is a hit in my house and works great in the crock pot for anyone who has as little time as I do to prepare a decent dinner!

2 lbs ground Turkey
2 cans light red kidney beans
2 small green pepper chopped
1 small onion chopped
1 cup water
1 large can diced tomatoes (seasoned is my preference)
1 Tbs Worchestire Sauce
2 packets Chili Seasoning (I use one mild and one hot)
grated cheddar cheese
Brown Rice

Brown the turkey in a skillet with a little olive oil.  Once browned put in crock pot with all other ingredients except rice and cheese.  Cook on low for 4-5 hours.  I serve over brown rice for added 'bulk' but that's totally optional.  Add cheese on top once served in bowls and you've got a great easy and healthy dinner!!  Enjoy!!

Eye Bright!!!

To achieve those beautiful cat eyes below, you have to counter act dark circles and tired looking eyes...

Too little sleep and too many drinks, are only partly to blame for tired-looking eyes. Dark circles get most of their color from excess melanin, per Clinique research. Skin naturally contains this pigment, but UV exposure sends production into overdrive, causing buildup. One way to brighten up is to dot lightener on bare skin in the a.m. under sunscreen and makeup.

How to Get Seductive Cat Eyes

Learn to apply cat eye makeup without stressing, smudging or fussing. Don't worry––this is not rocket science or advanced gymnastics; pefecting the cat eye look is more like riding a bicycle.

Not  only can this liner look improve or enhance your natural eye shape, like it does with mine, it can also distract from puffiness. Leave the bottom lashline completely clean, and the cat eye will get all the attention, says MAC Cosmetics senior artist John Stapleton.

In a nutshell, cat eye makeup is the ideal look for just about everyone (no wonder I'm so addicted), and here's everything you need to know to master it.

  • The Best Presidents' Day 2013 Sales

While most Americans don't line up for Presidents' Day sales, much less camp outside as some do for Black Friday, shoppers may find deeper discounts on Monday than they do during the holiday season.
Charlie Graham, founder of shopping site "Shop it to me" said past Presidents' Day online sales have higher average discounts than both Black Friday and Cyber Monday. "In the case of Presidents' Day, you have a smaller percentage of items on sale, but those items on sale have a much higher discount," Graham said. The reason is that most retailers are hoping to sell their winter inventory to make room for the spring items, Graham said. That's good for "opportunistic" shoppers, he said. "It's a good opportunity to grab some good deals for the end of season and next year,".Those eager to take advantage of Presidents' Day Sales today, click the  above photo for Promo codes, and listed Deals.

10 Low Budget Valentines Day Ideas

Everyone knows that Valentine’s Day is supposed to be romantic. You know what’s anything but romantic, though? Fights over money.
Yes, spending too much on this holiday, particularly during tough economic times like these, could lead to utterly unromantic clashes mere weeks from now when your credit card bill shows up in the mail.
As unpleasant as that scenario sounds, there’s no need to worry: You really and truly don’t have to spend big bucks to enjoy a special day together. The following tips can help you brainstorm fun-yet-frugal ideas for what could turn out to be your best Valentine’s Day yet.
    1. Devise a plan. Especially if money is tight right now, sit down and talk about what makes the most sense for both of you this Valentine’s Day. Is this really the year to long for diamonds? For expensive flowers that will wilt and die in a matter of days? For a high-dollar night out? Instead, consider focusing on spending quality, memorable time together this year — sans a big outlay of cash.

2.Stay in and relax. Valentine’s Day conveniently falls on a Saturday this year — and that means you could put your heads together and dream up the most ideal day at home ever. This Thursday or Friday, you could stock up on your favorite foods and drinks and rent movies that you both want to see. Tidy up the house ahead of time so you’ll be able to resist the urge to wipe down countertops and fold laundry all day long. If you have children, make baby-sitting arrangements for at least part of the day if at all possible.

    3. Enjoy a real spa retreat. Part of your romantic day in could include a trip to the “spa” you create at home. For a surprisingly reasonable sum of money, you could swing by a discount retailer this week and nab some lotions, bubble bath, bath salts, candles and even a bathrobe and slippers if you need them. One — or both of you together — could combine these items into a gift basket that could keep on giving for weeks and months to come. Clean your bathtub and the rest of your bathroom thoroughly before Saturday so you won’t have to be bothered with such chores on your day off together, and get your “spa” all ready before the big day.

    4. The weather’s about to change, so appreciate it while you can. Maybe staying in for the whole day just isn’t your speed. If you decide to head out, you still don’t have to burn through too much cash. For instance, many parts of the country still have snow on the ground — but not for too terribly much longer. Could you bundle up and go snowshoeing or hiking with Thermoses of hot chocolate and a picnic lunch that you pack from home? Or, if the weather isn’t that cold where you live, could you do something completely out of the ordinary for the two of you, such as taking a rowboat or paddleboat out on a nearby lake, or going for a stroll through a park or neighborhood you’ve never visited before?

    5. Dinner doesn’t have to cost a bundle. There’s really no need to drop $90 to $250 on a romantic dinner at a restaurant. In fact, with some advance planning, you could have a fabulous candlelit dinner at home — and, heck, you could even get all dressed up for it! Again, be sure you have every single food item on hand before Saturday. You don’t want to be bothered with having to run out to the store to pick up lemons or onions.

    6. Get all gussied up for a low-budget night out. If the two of you really want to hit the town on Saturday night, you could simply have coffee or a drink and dessert at a dark, romantic bistro or an expensive cafe or restaurant. At any time of the year, this avoid-the-entrée trick is a surefire way to savor the atmosphere — and your date — without busting your budget.
    7. Enjoy some live music or theater. Your local entertainment listings just may reveal that a college or university in your area is offering up all sorts of nifty live entertainment on Feb. 14. Performances by a college music or theater department may be free or may cost a fraction of the price charged by professional orchestras or opera and theater houses.

    8. Seek out some quiet time to read and think. Here’s a potential date idea if you’ve both been stressed out lately: You could wander through a library or a bookstore that has a coffee shop and encourages browsing. Rediscover passages you love from your favorite books, and enjoy the silence. Just be careful not to blow too much money on overpriced paperbacks during an outing like this!

9.If you give each other gifts, do something thoughtful. One way to avoid overspending this year is to agree to give each other gift certificates for your services. Such services could include making a nice dinner, cleaning the house, repairing the car or giving a massage. You also could make a handmade gift that genuinely is nice, not cheap or disappointing. For ideas on thoughtful do-it-yourself presents, check out this past 10 Tips column on the subject .

10.Write your feelings down. With the help of a package of inexpensive Valentines from the drugstore or grocery store — or, for that matter, any kind of paper — you could write out dozens of reasons why you love your mate. Leave the messages all over the house, in both noticeable and hidden-away places. This is another one of those gifts that could keep on giving for several weeks, if not months, down the road.

The Perfect Romantic Lines....from the 'experts'

If you're in search for the 'perfect line' on Valentine's Day and need a little help, why not borrow from some of the best....

Love notes.... Some inspiring prose to add to that Hallmark card, why not "…Love is a promise, love is a souvenir, once given never forgotten, never let it disappear.." by John Lennon or "Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope." by Maya Angelou

    Yummmm....

Look at these delicious cupcakes!! Is anyone making any special confections for their loved ones this Valentines Day?

    Winter Skin Relief

Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Light, is a comfortable cream/gel plumps skin with hydration for a full 24 hours.  Fine lines, flakiness and tightness are washed away.  In their place—a sense of supple, firm, vibrant well-being, even through shifts in humidity. One ‘drink' and skin looks and feels happier, healthier. Oil-free.
This is my absolute favorite facial moisturizer even more so in the bitter cold months! It has an almost gel-like texture that absorbs well, rather than just sitting on your skin as many of the other oily & waxy moisturizers that I have tried tend to do.

I use it alone, under or even over make-up. It is expensive, but a little goes a long way and a jar lasts me quite a while.

    Get the Perfect Eyebrows

When your eyebrows are groomed into the perfect shape for your face they make a perfect frame for your eyes -- and can even help your face look thinner or fuller. Ideally, your brows should not be too thin, should have a smooth arch and should taper slightly at the end. In general, if you have a full, rounder face, your brows should be fuller with a more angular arch. If you have a heart- or square-shaped face, your arch should be less defined. If your have an oval-shaped face

    InstructionsHow to Shape Your Eyebrows

1- Determine where your brows should start. Hold the pencil or makeup brush vertically against the side of one nostril. Where the pencil meets your brow is the ideal starting point for your brows -- it should be even with the center of your nostril. Using the eyebrow  pencil, mark that spot. Repeat on the other eye.

2- Determine where your brow should end. Hold the pencil vertically against your nose, and then angle it out until it meets the corner of your eye. The spot where the pencil meets your brow bone is the best ending point for your brows. Mark that spot with the eyebrow pencil, and repeat on the other eye.

3 -Determine the best arch for your brows. Again holding the pencil parallel to your nose, angle it outward until it is just past the colored part of your iris. This should be the highest point of your eyebrow.

4 -Mark this spot, and then repeat the process for your other eye.
connect the dots using the eyebrow pencil, to create a guideline for tweezing.

5 -Use the brush to comb the hairs into place.

6 -Tweeze the hairs on the outside of your guideline. Tweeze one hair at a time, pulling in the direction of the hair growth.

7 -Step back after tweezing a few hairs to check your work and make sure you are not over plucking.

    The Wolf of Wall Street

I read this book when it first came out. It was a wildly entertaining, great read. It has recently been made into a movie and it will be released to theaters soon. Starring the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey and Johah Hill with Martin Scorsese directing, I am going to assume that the movie will be even better.

In The Wolf of Wall Street, DiCaprio would play Jordan Belfort, a Long Island penny stockbroker who served 20 months in prison for refusing to cooperate in a massive 1990s securities fraud case that involved widespread corruption on Wall Street and in the corporate banking world, including mob infiltration.

By day he made thousands of dollars a minute. By night, he spent it as fast as he could, on drugs, sex, and international globe-trotting. From the binge that sank a 170-foot motor yacht, crashed a Gulfstream jet, and ran up a $700,000 hotel tab. From the stormy relationship Belfort shared with his model-wife as they ran a madcap household that included two young children, a full-time staff of twenty-two, a pair of bodyguards, and hidden cameras. The unbridled hedonism of his office life, and the fast-talking, hard-partying young stockbrokers who called him king and did his bidding. Even as the SEC and FBI zeroed in on them—it is the extraordinary story of an ordinary guy who went from hustling Italian ices at sixteen to making hundreds of millions.
Until it all came crashing down…

FUNFACT: Some of the movie was filmed right here on Long Island in Brookville, NY as well as many places in New York City

    Snow Day Project

Here on the east coast we are preparing for another winter storm, with that being said why not take the time to update your staircase or lonely wall. For years, I would hammer random nail patterns up and hope for the best, usually ending in disappointment. With frustration I began “googling” and noticed lots of patterns were printed on line, based on wall size or stair case length, making your frame layout decision all the easier.

Visit your local craft store for low cost  black frames with mats (averaging under 3 dollars), print out black and white prints, mix and match, portraits, still life’s, and whimsical art.

Simply layout your prints as described from the outline è mark out on wall è and presto è a cohesive well designed framed wall art.

Do you LOVE shoes as much as we do?

    Tell us:
What's your favorite brand? How many pairs do you own?

      Pink pumps + big bow,

    Ahhhh, time to wake up!!

Instead of hitting the snooze button in the morning, take an extra 10 minutes to stretch. You don't even have to leave the bed to do them! Try this simple stretching sequence when you wake up tomorrow to get your blood flowing and your body primed for your day.

    • Upward Stretch - Lace your fingers together and raise your hands above your head, palms facing upward. Elongate your spine and feel the stretch in your ribcage and arms. Hold for a count of ten and then incorporate a sitting side stretch into the sequence to target your torso.
    • Neck and Shoulder Stretch -  To stretch the muscles on the right side of your neck, turn your left ear over to your left shoulder and hold for twenty seconds. Repeat on the other side to stretch out your left side. Relax for a moment and then roll your shoulders to the back, and then to the front. Then lift them right up to your ears, tensing the muscles, and allow them to drop completely. Repeat this entire sequence three times.
    • Spinal Twist -  Hold the pose for at least 30 seconds on each side and don't be alarmed if you hear some "cracks" in your spine when you twist your spine. Don't force anything here, just feel your spinal column wringing itself out after a good night's sleep.
    • Lying Side Quad Stretch - To really maximize your quad stretch, squeeze your glute max while engaged in the stretch. Since quads are one of the most overworked muscles in the body, make sure to stretch 'em every day.
    • Hamstring Stretch - Make sure that when you do this stretch your pelvis is square (keep your hips centered and flat). Think of this stretch as a way to wake up your legs, rather than helping you make it into the splits. Circle your ankles a few times in each direction, too.
    Have a great day!! :-)

Here is our weekend look...on a budget
We started with Face Cream (make sure it has SPF in it) followed by Tarte Amazonian Clay ($38- but will last 3 months). Then, I use Nars Laguna Bronzer ($16.99 on ebay and this will last a long time too) then I add Cover Girl loose powder on top to set the makeup. I highlight my cheekbones with NYC Bronzer (in your local CVS/Walgreens). I use Maybelline Waterproof liquid eyeliner and follow up with Maybelline Falsies Mascara (THE BEST!!) I play with my lipstick depending on my mood, that's the fun part. I have many lipsticks and lipglosses, most from inexpensive lines. They are just as good as the (what I would call) overpriced make-up lines in Department Stores. Hope you like it!!
    Enjoy your Weekend!!!

    Quaker Perfect Portions Instant Oatmeal

This is a GREAT new find!!  No added sugar is what caught my eye and the 'pouch' packaging is a great feature.  Both flavors are DELISH!!  I keep it in my desk at work and one pouch provides me with at least one week of healthy breakfast eating!  Enjoy!!

    So....to start off the weekend,
my girlfriend is hosting a "Passion Party".
What do you think? Classy or Trashy?
